3:30pm: FREE seminar ‘What makes a sustainable business’ by Stephen Duncan of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Sustainable Business Partnership
Available on a first come, first served basis in The Forge – no booking required

Stephen DuncanStephen Duncan is the manager of the Sustainable Business Partnership, an independent, publicly funded partnership promoting and supporting the adoption of sustainable business practices amongst SMEs in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

In his time at the SBP Stephen has been involved with a wide range of activities, including the development of the popular Sustainable Business Network support model, delivery of various funded projects targeted at a very practical level for SMEs (such as skills training and environmental auditing) and engaging with strategic and delivery partners at a local, regional and national level.

Stephen’s presentation will explore the breadth of issues which businesses need to address if they are to genuinely be able to promote themselves as a ‘sustainable business.’ The session will combine an overview of general sustainable principles across the ‘three pillars’ – social, environmental and economic – with an interactive discussion focusing on the prioritisation of actions, credibility of claims and the identification of opportunities, which could lead to significant business gain.

Drawing on case studies from real Hampshire businesses who have in the past participated in the Sustainable Business Awards, Stephen aims to identify what sort of message we might already be able to promote about the businesses in the room - without resorting to greenwash!
